Art work by Joyce Hardiman 1904 - 2006
We are sure you will be amazed when you see this incredible art work. Joyce Hardiman was born on Christmas Day 1904, our mother - grandmother and great grandmother she sadly died last year aged 101. She spent most of her life creating this original craftwork. Her work spanned a period of 50 years, We have on display what remained from her shell shop at Treen in Cornwall, because we feel this unique craft is unlikely to be repeated. Flowers, jewellery, ornaments etc. are made from almost every sea shell imaginable. Seaweed - fish scales - barnacles etc. have also not been overlooked. She continued to create up to the age of 94, but found she was then unable to continue through failing eyesight. Shells were collected from all over Devon and Cornwall and many shells were sent to her from all over the world. The fish scales and crab claw membranes were acquired here at Mortehoe Shellfish where she spent many memorable holidays with us. We have assembled this collection for people to see something they may never see again.
It is FREE so why not pop in and have a look.
